So much for freedom, free speech…or a product that works the way it’s supposed to, for that matter. Apparently, Apple is now part of the big, bad corporatist oligarchy ruling over us. As you’ll see in this article, they’ve just patented technology that would allow them (or whomever they grant access to) to disable the cameras on all iPhones according to location.
So, if you’re standing at the TSA and you witness some sort of egregious violation of human rights and you whip out your phone to document it, you could find it disabled. How convenient for those who would violate our Constitutional rights. I can see no legitimate, moral ground that could be used to justify the need for or use of this patent/technology.
This is the future of technology and the Big brother society we’re now living in if nothing changes. If Apple actually goes through with this, I will absolutely be giving my business to someone else. And if this sort of thing becomes the norm, we’ll all just have to start bringing around cameras.
